Posture Effects on Students

ACA was featured in an Iowa State Daily article about how slouching over computers, slinging heavy backpacks over one shoulder and squeezing into too-small classroom desks are posture-ruining actions that many students perform daily. ACA recommends that in addition to sitting up straight, individuals must also make sure their feet are placed flat on the floor with their legs uncrossed and their ankles slightly in front of their knees. ACA also recommends that bearing weight primarily on the balls of the feet and standing straight with shoulders back, stomach tucked in, knees slightly bent and feet shoulder-width apart all help ensure proper posture while standing.
