NCHM 2020: Active, Adaptive…and Pretty Amazing

Texas Chiropractors Lead the Way to a New NCHM Proclamation Record: 51!

In planning this year’s National Chiropractic Health Month observance, the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) wanted to provide the chiropractic profession with a way to connect with patients and communities as they continued to adjust to life during the COVID-19 pandemic. Granted, we knew this year’s observance, like everything this year, would be different. Leave it to the chiropractic profession to demonstrate just how “Active and Adaptive” it could be!

While we hoped that chiropractors would participate in the campaign, we also knew there might be extra hurdles to climb, particularly for those trying to obtain proclamations from city and state governments that already had their hands full dealing with the pandemic. So it was with great surprise that we discovered mid-month that NCHM 2020 would set a new record. This year, the chiropractic profession beat its 2019 record (34) to obtain 51 state and local proclamations!

Some of the proclamations resulted in photo opportunities with state and local leaders. You can see many of them, along with other content created by chiropractors for NCHM, posted on Facebook here.

Our thanks to everyone who participated. Special thanks to the Texas Chiropractic Association (TCA) and doctors in that state who, for the second year, launched an effort to obtain proclamations across the state. Of the 51 NCHM proclamations, 31 are from Texas!

We had to ask TCA: What is your secret?

“National Chiropractic Health Month is a prime opportunity to shine the spotlight on chiropractic and the Texas Chiropractic Association takes it seriously,” said Frisco chiropractor Andrew Oteo, DC, TCA’s District 5 state director and chair of the Public Relations/Communications Committee. “Texas has led the nation in the number of proclamations the past two years for a reason: we plan early! We work closely with our Board of Directors and state leaders, encouraging them to reach out to members in their respective districts. Our goal is to ensure all the major cities are accounted for first and then the other smaller cities across the state. We heavily promote ACA’s online NCHM resources and provide our members with a proclamation template that mentions both ACA and TCA. We try to make it easy.

“When our doctors achieve a proclamation in their city or county, we make a big deal about it,” Dr. Oteo continued. “We feature them on all of social media channels. They enjoy the accolades and we’ve significantly increased the number of likes, shares and retweets throughout the month. Promoting chiropractic is our No. 1 priority, but it is a win-win for everyone.”
