Panel Delves into Disparities in Pain Care
In a special panel discussion at Engage 2023, five chiropractors explored the reasons and possible solutions for disparities in pain care. The panelists shared their experiences treating veterans, Native Americans, LGBTQ+ people, racial and ethnic minorities and low-income populations. Throughout the conversation, panelists discussed social determinants of health and how they can and do impact access and quality of care for many of these underserved patients. They also stressed the importance of chiropractors identifying ways to reach out to these populations. “As healthcare providers we really need to understand where we are going to be an asset in our community,” noted panelist Maithy Ta, DC.
Practice and Professional Tips Shared at Workshop
SACA and NextGen members received career-enhancing information and advice this morning at the
Professional Development Workshop. The event featured three stations that participants could rotate through, including a discussion of VA residencies along with related professional and research opportunities; NCMIC’s Starting Into Practice Program, which offers tips on post-diploma life regardless of whether a person is planning to start a practice, join an existing practice or become an independent contractor; and a Resume Review Session that featured interview tips and a focus on drafting a professional CV.
