How is the topic you are presenting at Engage 2022 relevant to today’s chiropractor?

Dr. Forcum: Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training and rehabilitation is the hottest topic in rehabilitation–cutting rehab time between 40 percent to 60 percent. With little space required, and requiring little to no equipment, it is perfect for chiropractic.

What background do you have in respect to your topic area/specialty?

Dr. Forcum: I trained on this topic at USA Skiing’s Center of Excellence and worked with world-class athletes with this cutting-edge technique. I have diplomates in both sports and rehab.

What practical knowledge or skills can attendees take away from your presentation and start using immediately in their practices?

Dr. Forcum: In this lecture you will learn to set yourself apart in patient care and how to use this technology with very little time, space, or equipment requirements. You will understand the concepts of BFR training to be able to evaluate different products and how to use them effectively.

Can you share an anecdote from your own career to demonstrate how greater knowledge/understanding of your topic can make a difference for patient care and/or professional success?

Dr. Forcum: A hip replacement patient that returned to mountain biking in less than 4 weeks. … A 69- and 68-year-old couple increased bone density 14 percent in eight months. … An Olympic skier, after lumbar discectomy, returned to skiing after one month and then World Championships competition two months later.

What do you enjoy about presenting educational programs?

Dr. Forcum: I love learning and sharing on topics that I know can help advance health and make health care more efficient.
