How is the topic you are presenting at Engage 2022 relevant to today’s chiropractor?

Dr. Foss: We all have had those patients that have nerve root symptoms but lack the exam or imaging findings to substantiate the symptoms. This lecture will dive deeper into these cases of peripheral etiologies that mimic nerve root pathology. We will explore how to hunt down the outliers in your patients.

What makes you an expert in this field?

Dr. Foss: My passion has always been solving the mystery of the patient who has been unable to find a successful treatment plan. I have devoted many years to continuing education and patient care to really understand and conceptualize the outliers that cause symptoms that, at first glance, seem to be in the bell curve.

What practical knowledge will attendees take away from your presentation?

Dr. Foss: This lecture will walk you through examination techniques that include assessment of the more common outliers. Quality examination is the bases for an outstanding care plan. If we have a laser focus on nailing down the diagnosis of the patient accurately, then the treatment plan will be successful. Always strive to be the best healthcare practitioner that has crossed the path of the patient.

What do you enjoy about presenting educational programs?

Dr. Foss: Years ago, I felt frustrated by the lack of support expressed by our fellow chiropractors towards each other. My mission is to elevate our great profession. Together we comprise hundreds of thousands of hands touching patients each day. Let’s embrace that and be worthy and elevate each other. This is why I like teaching; my two hands become many.
