ICSC Spotlight: An Osteopathic Physician Discusses His Approach to Cervical Spine Manipulation

The Interprofessional Collaborative Spine Conference, set for Nov. 8-9 in Pittsburgh, Pa., will bring together members of the chiropractic, osteopathic medicine and physical therapy professions to tackle topics related to manual therapy and its use in treating low back pain and other conditions. As part of the presentation “Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) Competency, Safety and Risk Management Presentations,” Michael Seffinger, DO, a professor at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, Western University of Health Sciences, discusses the osteopathic approach to ensuring the appropriateness and safety of cervical spine manipulation for patients.

Don’t Just Inspire; Ignite the Passion to Participate

The key to effective leadership is to speak to people’s “why.” For example, if you tell someone to attend NCLC, they will undoubtedly ask you for the details of the event. Normal. But the thought process doesn’t end there for them. Once you give them the “what” and “how” of the trip, they will filter this information through their “why” and determine if it is something worth doing...Leadership isn’t a destination, it’s a journey. Meaning, you will encounter people at all stages of willingness to engage and explore more, but it is your job to find them there.

New ACA Nominating Committee Members Appointed

The first ACA competency-based Nominating Committee was appointed during the association’s 53rd annual meeting in Washington, D.C., March 18. The committee is tasked with vetting candidates for ACA’s new governance structure based on their skills, experience and organizational need.
