ACA Member Works to Enhance Diversity in Chiropractic and Naturopathic Professions

It was not so long ago that conversations about the value of diversity and how to achieve it were uncommon in chiropractic and other healthcare professions. But things are changing thanks to ACA members such as Nakiesha Pearson, DC, ND, vice chair of the ACA Committee on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). ACA Blogs caught up with Dr. Pearson to learn what drives this dedicated advocate to “do the work” to promote diversity and challenge disparities in health care.

Black History Moments in Chiropractic

During February, it is important to recognize Black History Month in the chiropractic profession. February should be a reminder that the journey towards racial equality is underway, but unaccomplished. However, it is a great starting point for clinics, chiropractic schools, and organizations to allow the significance of the month to resonate. Being knowledgeable about the lack of representation in the past and present is one way to change the path for the future.

Diversity and Chiropractic: A Conversation

ACA’s first diversity forum touches on potential strategies to increase cultural competency among chiropractors.

Enhancing diversity in the chiropractic profession will be a vital and ongoing process to meet the needs of the nation’s ever-changing population, according to chiropractors gathered at a leadership roundtable in December to explore issues related to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). The EDI Forum’s Leadership Roundtable, which took place via Zoom, is the first of its kind organized by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) Committee on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
