Get Started Now on Your NCHM 2020 Proclamation!

Each year, doctors of chiropractic and students reach out to their state and local governments to request proclamations declaring October as National Chiropractic Health Month (NCHM). The process can take a few weeks to complete so August is a great time to get started.

This year’s theme, “Active and Adaptive,” encourages people to adapt in healthy ways to the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic by, for example, staying active, managing stress, and being aware of their posture when working from home. Chiropractors are essential healthcare workers who are providing key support to their communities by helping patients stay healthy and manage their pain without the use of drugs or surgery.

“The last two years I have had three cities sign onto [National Chiropractic Health Month],” says Andrea Ohmann, DC, former SACA national chair who now practices in White Bear Lake, Minn. “I started reaching out to the city government in August. Most cities had something on their website about proclamations and if they did not, I would reach out to the city secretary by email to find out the best/appropriate way to get the mayor to sign on. Then just follow the steps.”

“In the past years, I just had them sign and mail the proclamation to my office instead of doing a big signing in the city hall,” she adds. “My hope was to do something bigger this year, but with COVID-19, we will see!”
