Former ACA staff person Andrew Slavik, DC, passed away on April 22, 2018, in Olathe, Kansas. Dr. Slavik joined the ACA insurance relations department in 2008, contributing to important projects such as the Health Care Reform Task Force. While on staff, Dr. Slavik maintained his private practice in Kentucky and thereby offered an invaluable perspective as a practicing doctor, helping to guide association initiatives to develop resources and information for ACA members.  His significant contributions to ACA were recognized in 2012 when he was awarded the ACA’s Presidential Leadership Award.

In 2013, Dr. Slavik left ACA, sold his private practice and joined the faculty of Cleveland University in Kansas City, where he served as assistant dean of clinical education. Dr. Slavik continued to serve ACA and its members as an active member of the Payment Policy Committee, sharing his expertise and contributing greatly to this group’s important work.

“Andrew’s passing is a sad time for ACA, the profession and the many professional colleagues he touched while he was so actively involved at various ACA committee levels,” noted Dr. James Rehberger, former ACA governor and past chairman of the Payment Policy Committee. “I felt fortunate to share in many of those committee activities with him. He was knowledgeable, always prepared and a member who made meaningful recommendations but was willing to listen and share in committee discussions/decisions.

“He became a friend through those activities and I was privileged to share my home in Illinois with him several times as he resettled from Kentucky to his exciting new job at Cleveland University in Kansas,” Dr. Rehberger continued. “Those were private visits with Andrew that I will always cherish. He was simply a good man who loved his family and his profession very much.”

Dr. Slavik was well liked and well respected by his ACA family, and we will miss him greatly.
