Metabolic Syndrome Becoming More Prevalent

Metabolic syndrome is a collection of risk factors that increase a person’s chances of developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes. The condition is also known as Syndrome X, insulin resistance syndrome, hypertriglyceridemic waist, and obesity syndrome (also sometimes known as dysmetabolic syndrome).  All of these describe the same condition in different ways and lead to the same result.

Veterans Choice Program: An Update

Doctors of chiropractic treating veterans through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Veterans Choice Program (VCP) have been receiving letters from contractors administering the program informing them that the VCP is scheduled to expire, by law, on Aug. 7, 2017. However, with an additional $1 billion in dedicated funding remaining in the program, legislation was introduced to eliminate the August 2017 sunset date.

Joining the Big League: Chiropractic and Professional Baseball

Professional baseball organizations have come a long way in providing chiropractic to their players. Chiropractic care has been a vital component of helping many of the biggest stars in Major League Baseball (MLB) to play and avoid injuries, but also enhance their performance throughout the long and tedious MLB season. Currently, 28 teams in the MLB utilize chiropractic services at home during the season as well as during spring training. Not only do the large majority of MLB teams recognize chiropractic, but many teams in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) do, as well.

DC2017 Opening Speakers Stress Chiropractic’s Opportunity to Make an Impact

Chiropractors are part of the solution to opioid addiction, high costs of spinal pain treatment and health care collaboration.

The chiropractic profession must take bold, innovative steps forward and collaborate with other professions to make an impact on some of the major challenges and trends in health care, according to speakers featured at the opening session of DC2017 in Washington, D.C., last week. The lineup of thought leaders from both inside and outside the profession challenged chiropractors to examine what they could do as a profession and individually to meet the needs of a society struggling with spinal pain, painkiller addiction and runaway health care costs.

SACA Elects New Board; Students Bring Home Awards and Scholarships

ACA, the World Federation of Chiropractic and the Association of Chiropractic Colleges teamed up recently to present a world-class chiropractic conference, DC2017. As part of the meeting, the Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA) met for their annual business meeting and elected a new SACA executive national board (SNEB).
