News Coverage of Chiropractic

No organization has done as much for positioning doctors of chiropractic as health and wellness experts in the eyes of the public as the ACA has.

Below you'll find excerpts of media stories that mention doctors of chiropractic and/or chiropractic care.

  • Washington Post, June 2009
The June 2 Health section of the Washington Post included an article reporting on survey results released in April, in which survey respondents rated chiropractic/spinal manipulation as the top treatment for back pain. Read the article.

  •  Natural Health, June 2009
An article in the June issue of Natural Health magazine looked at the whole-body approach offered by doctors of chiropractic, as well as some of the unexpected side benefits such as better posture, fewer headaches, and more energy. The article also lists the ACA Web site as a place where readers can locate a doctor of chiropractic near them.
  • AARP the Magazine, May 2009
The July-August issue of AARP the Magazine, the nation’s largest circulation magazine with more than 24 million readers, included a story about back pain and mentioned chiropractic as a treatment for lasting relief.  Read the article, “The Back Story.”
  • WebMD and CBS Early Show, April 2009
According to an April patient survey by a leading consumer group, chiropractic is the top rated treatment for back pain. Of the 14,000 survey respondents who suffered from back pain in the past year, 58 percent rated chiropractic/spinal manipulation as helping a lot. When asked how satisfied they were with practitioners, 59 percent of respondents said they were “highly satisfied” with the back pain treatment received from their doctors of chiropractic whereas only 34 percent said the same about their primary care physicians.  Most survey respondents had, on average, tried five or six different treatments for their back pain. Both WebMD and the CBS Early Show covered the story, noting that conservative therapies, including chiropractic spinal manipulation, are preferred treatments in comparison to painkillers or surgery.

  • Men’s Health, March 2009
ACA media spokesperson Dr. Steven Conway is quoted in the March issue of Men’s Health in an article about the importance of a good, ergonomic office chair. Dr. Conway tells readers that “the risk of back pain is tremendous” with prolonged sitting because of the intense pressure on the spinal discs. In fact, the article notes, that on average, workers spend 74 percent of their day sitting. Read the article.

  • KOIN Channel 6 in Portland, March 2009
